Relocation Eligibility: This position is eligible for our domestic relocation program
Reporting to the Director, U.S Law – Commercial and Regulatory, the individual will be primarily responsible for providing regulatory legal advice on U.S. matter to departments in the Natural Gas Pipelines business units and may act as counsel in regulatory proceedings before U.S. state and federal regulators and administrative tribunals.
Provide support, guidance and legal opinions to the U.S. Natural Gas Pipeline business units on various U.S. regulatory, administrative and commercial issues affecting TransCanada’s U.S. natural gas pipeline interests;
Develop pleadings for filing with U.S. state and federal regulatory boards and other administrative tribunals and agencies, focused primarily on matters of economic regulation;
Represent TransCanada’s interests as counsel in regulatory and other administrative proceedings;
Negotiate various commercial and regulatory matters on TransCanada’s behalf;
Work in conjunction with and provide supervision and direction to external legal counsel;
Provide legal and regulatory advice and support for business development initiatives related to greenfield extensions and expansions of established pipeline systems and related commercial initiatives;
Siting and permitting of new liquids pipelines;
Provide advice and assistance to internal client groups on various U.S. regulatory compliance matters;
Participate as a member of the U.S. Natural Gas Pipelines emergency response support program.

Qualifications and Education/Experience
An understanding of the natural gas pipeline businesses and direct experience with economic regulation (tolls, tariff and service matters) and siting and permitting of natural gas pipelines;
Strong knowledge of and familiarity with applicable U.S. federal and state laws, regulations and practices;
Strong advocacy skills, both oral and written;
An ability and willingness to travel within North America, as required;
Strong organizational skills and an ability to support diverse client groups and handle multiple matters; and
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well both independently and in a team environment.
Education and Experience:
Juris Doctorate from ABA accredited law school;
Licensed to practice law in the US;
Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university;
Direct experience in proceedings before U.S. state and federal energy regulatory boards and tribunals;
Minimum 5 years of relevant legal experience.*
