The Assistant General Counsel – Employment (Americas) will be part of the Johnson Matthey Group Legal team and will contribute to all employment related matters in the Americas region. The incumbent will assist in all employment related matters at Corporate and across the Sectors, including working with Corporate HR on the development and interpretation of policies and programs and generally assist the General Counsel (Americas) and VP US Corporate HR.
Provides in-house legal counsel on employment-related matters, which will include, but is not limited to, human resources issues, wage and hour law, workers’ compensation, unemployment and other state agency claims and audits, labor relations, employee benefits, employment agreements and policy related issues, FMLA matters, compliance and investigatory matters, immigration matters, transactional matters and employment related litigation.
Assists in the creation of related regional (Americas) and country policies, and where appropriate contribute and input into the development of global policies.
Assists in ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and policies.
Assists and participates in investigations related to employment practices as appropriate.
Provide corporate secretarial services and support to the US benefits and investment committee.
Participates in and influences the decision-making process with appropriate internal clients and stakeholders.
Identifies and assesses legal risks and opportunities within the employment area and advises accordingly.
Independently handles legal matters and projects ranging from basic to complex.
Recognizes when to elevate certain matters to the attention of the General Counsel (Americas), Sector Legal Directors and/or VP US Corporate HR.
Supervises, manages and evaluates outside counsel on employment related matters including litigation.
Educates and trains Johnson Matthey managers and employees on employment-related legal matters, policies and procedures.
Establishes and maintains relationships, credibility and trust with Johnson Matthey employees, managers, legal team members and other colleagues.
Performs other tasks as assigned from time to time by the General Counsel (Americas), which may include non-employment litigation, corporate governance and health, safety and environmental matters.
