Overview: Outstanding opportunity to join an exciting, innovative, and disruptive biotechnology company. Ginkgo Bioworks (“Ginkgo” or “Company”) is seeking to fill the role of General Counsel. Reporting to Founder and Chief Operating Officer, the General Counsel is the principal legal officer of the Company, with overall responsibility for the vision and leadership of the Company’s global legal strategy and services and the management of legal risk throughout the organization. A member of the Company’s senior management team, the General Counsel will serve as legal counsel and strategic advisor to the Company’s executive team and Board of Directors.

Experience: The successful candidate will hold a J.D. and a minimum of 10 years of corporate and transactional legal experience within the biotechnology and/or technology industries, gained ideally through a combination of law firm training and in-house experience in roles of increasing scope and responsibility. Extensive experience with complex commercial and business development transactions (including contract drafting and negotiations) and IP licensing required. Advanced degree or experience with genetics, microbiology and/or synthetic biology is a strong plus.
Compensation:A highly competitive compensation package including equity will be offered for this position consistent with the candidate’s level of experience.
Relocation: Yes, this is a national search, although local candidates are preferred.
Employer will assist with relocation costs.
