The Office of the Vice President and General Counsel at the University of Michigan (“University” or “U-M”) is conducting a search for an experienced health care transactional attorney to serve as an Associate General Counsel. The successful candidate will provide counsel and support to the University’s academic medical center, Michigan Medicine, in its strategic affiliation and business transactions, and periodically will advise the University’s other schools, colleges, and administrative areas on transactional and contracting matters. This attorney will be based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The successful candidate should have at least five (5) years of transactional legal experience, preferably in the area of health care transactions, as well as a commitment to the mission of academic medicine, higher education, and health care. Significant experience drafting and negotiating transactional documents and commercial contracts, particularly those in the context of mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, contractual affiliations, and professional services arrangements preferred as is familiarity with federal and state health care laws and regulations, including federal and state anti-kickback statutes, the Stark Law, HIPAA, the Civil Monetary Penalties Law, the Affordable Care Act, and Medicare Conditions of Participation.
