The Associate General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer will report to the Chief Legal Officer and will serve as the global lead privacy counsel. Data and customer trust are central to what we do, which means that this role will interact and work with the Board of Directors and Executives of Snowflake. You will continue to build, sustain and optimize a world-leading privacy compliance program, supported by leading certifications and audits. As our privacy compliance team grows, you will mentor and manage the team. As we expand our footprint, regulator engagement will become increasingly important, particularly as we roll out new products and services. The individual will continue to build, sustain and optimize a robust privacy and technology risk program. This role will be the principal subject matter expert on privacy and technology risk management issues.
Legal analysis of the application of federal and state privacy laws and regulations as applied to the company's business lines
Monitoring, and providing advice on implementation of, new privacy and security laws and regulations impacting the company's business
Provide privacy compliance advice on products, including with respect to how new technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and blockchain interact with privacy laws
Proactive identification of compliance and regulatory issues affecting the company's compliance with privacy laws and regulations
Partner with colleagues cross-functionally to help drive a culture of risk awareness and proactive risk identification and assessment
Strong collaboration with the Chief Security Officer to ensure proper oversight of the firm’s security and training, and incident response plan
Develop positive cross-departmental working relationships to maintain an open environment for collaboration, risk identification, and remediation
Report key performance indicators and other department metrics with accountability as the Chief Privacy Officer to the management team and company's executive leadership
Actively manage Privacy and Incident Management programs
J.D., with 5-10 years of career focus on privacy and cyber security laws and regulations.
Experience providing privacy advice, including strong familiarity with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation.
Experience negotiating data processing and business associate agreements, particularly in connection with cloud computing services.
Experience providing privacy advice in connection with the development of new products and services, particularly in the technology/cloud computing spaces.
Exposure to cutting edge privacy issues posed by machine learning, artificial intelligence, blockchain and data sharing.
Strong oral and written communication skills, from email advice to detailed memoranda to negotiations with counterparties to advocacy in client meetings.
Detail-orientation and ability to balance competing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
Excellent judgment and sense of humor.
Ability to engage in complex legal analyses and communicate in terms understandable to customers and business owners.
Experience owning budgeting and forecasting, project management, and effective change management.
