Our client, an innovative Fortune 100 technology driven company, is seeking an experience attorney to join their legal function as Assistant General Counsel– Global Data Privacy. This role will be responsible for the development, refinement, and maintenance of the company’s global data privacy policies consistent with applicable regulations globally, including those of the US, Canada, South and Latin America, Asia Pacific and the EU.
Responsibilities for this role will include:
Assist in developing and managing the implementation of Company’s privacy and security programs, including development and maintenance of policies and procedures, compliance materials, employee training, and monitoring and support of same;
Review and advise on contracts involving the collection, protection, transfer or and use of data, whether company data, employee data, or that of another party such a customer or business partner, including analyzing the privacy and security implications of new suppliers, initiatives, products and services and offering guidance on ways to minimize privacy compliance risks;
Assist with data and security incidents and breach responses;
Partner closely with and advise the company’s HR, IT, marketing, product and business teams on privacy and data protection-related matters, including privacy by design;
Conducting privacy risk and impact assessments;
Evaluating the impact of contractual and regulatory privacy and security requirements on business practices;
Advise on the global data protection regulatory framework, including the requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
Candidates must have the following qualifications to be considered:
At least five years of experience in Privacy environment, with deep knowledge and experience of operationalizing privacy and data protection frameworks, principles and compliance programs;
Proven experience operationalizing conflicting privacy requirements across the globe;
Experience in drafting, implementing, and managing corporate data privacy and protection policies;
Ability to effectively engage with leaders at all levels and collaborate across functions to achieve workable solutions that meet business needs while effectively managing risk;
Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills;
Detail orientated with strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously while maintaining high quality and performance under pressure;
Certifications such as CIPP/US, CIPP/E and/or CIPP/M (or comparable) is beneficial but not required.
Employer will assist with relocation costs.
