Rapidly expanding global Government Contracts Services company seeks to hire its first labor and employment law counsel. This newly created, Associate General Counsel (“AGC”) role stems from a recent acquisition (more than doubling the company’s workforce to 5,000 employees in 30+ states and 20+ countries) and expansion of the company’s international activities.
Responsibilities Include: Providing business-oriented legal counsel on all aspects of employment-related advice, including issues related to Title VII, the ADA, the FLSA, FMLA and all other federal and state employment laws; handling all union relations (Collective Bargaining Agreements and Service Contract Act issues); conducting internal employment investigations (e.g., EEOC and wrongful termination) and presenting findings to senior management; managing outside counsel in employment litigation on a global basis; ensuring compliance with all reporting requirements (external and internal); working collaboratively with other departments to drive employment best practices across the company; drafting employment policies and procedures and conducting requisite employee trainings on same; and, on occasion, providing advice on export control regulations, ITAR and other international regulations effecting a global business.
Client Base: Executive management team and human resources professionals. Will report to the General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer.
*Extremely rare, first in time opportunity where you can serve as the sole global L&E counsel for a growing company, design and implement its L&E internal legal function, and handle union-related labor law matters in addition to the typical employment law portfolio.
- 5-12 years of L&E practice experience (ideally 2-3 years within a corporate legal department setting); if coming directly from a law firm, a client secondment is highly preferred.
- Significant expertise in employment law compliance, internal investigations and working with unions, Service Contract Act associates and labor associations (specifically, negotiating CBAs)
- Experience supporting multinational corporations on international employment issues
- Ability to serve as a business partner to corporate leaders and build consensus on complex employment law and business issues
- Willingness to travel domestically (20%)
- Candidates should hold a Secret Clearance (or above) or be capable of obtaining one
Additional Qualifications: - Experience with U.S. government contracting requirements (i.e. FAR and DFARS)
- French language skills are highly desired
- Possession of excellent organizational, interpersonal, client relations, and team skills
- Exemplary project and time management skills
