Reporting to the President & Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Trustees, this position has responsibility for daily operations of the Corporate Compliance department, and legal services to include risk management, professional/general liability coverages and other insurance coverages. Manages litigation and claims activities in conjunction with outside counsel and third party claims’ administrators.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for providing comprehensive general legal services including contract review, drafting and preparing legal documents, and providing legal advice to internal leadership and stakeholders.
Responsible for promoting a culture of ethics and ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, internal policies, guidelines and contracts as well as exercising due diligence and sound internal controls to operate with integrity and protect against legal and ethical risks.
Responsible for advising and providing legal options and guidance to the Executive team on problems relating to the operation of the medical center.
Responsible for developing and administering risk management and loss prevention programs to ensure compliance with safety regulations and legislation, and to minimize risk and reduce costs and losses.
Responsible for overseeing the Corporate Compliance Program; develops, initiates, and maintains policies and procedures for the compliance program to ensure the identification and prevention of illegal, unethical and improper conduct.
Monitors the performance and effectiveness of the compliance program; provides reports on a regular basis to keep executive and senior management and the Board of Trustees informed of the operation and progress of the compliance program.
Responsible for ensuring proper collaboration with internal departments and Human Resources for compliance matters involving investigation and resolution.
Responsible for ensuring proper procedures are developed and followed in response to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and Codes of Conduct.
Responsible for implementing, maintaining, and managing all compliance-related training for leadership and staff.
Responsible for directing the activities and work of compliance office staff including responsibility for hiring, performance management, and staff training and coaching
A Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university is required.
Admitted, in good standing, and licensed to practice in the State of Missouri or become licensed within 90 days of employment.
A minimum of five (5) year’s legal experience in a corporate legal department, regulatory agency, or health care organization as corporate counsel or compliance officer.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to prepare reports, provide counsel to internal Directors and SLT, and coordinate legal matters with outside counsel as required.
