PPL Corporation, a Fortune 500 international utility company, is seeking an experienced commercial attorney to join its legal department. This is a great opportunity to join a collegial team with strong client focus and a shared commitment to providing excellent legal service. This position is the lead legal advisor for supply chain-related matters and commercial contracts for PPL’s service and utility companies. The role is responsible for guiding management, business, and functional teams on strategic and tactical commercial projects, and for management of and coordination with outside counsel, consultants, and vendors when necessary. The successful candidate will be a pragmatic, solutions-oriented counselor and advisor, an excellent legal project manager, and will bring deep experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and implementing complex commercial arrangements to this position.
Primary Responsibilities :
Provide strategic legal and risk management counsel to business and functional/services clients on commercial, general corporate, and supply-chain-related matters.
Prepare, analyze, negotiate, and review contractual arrangements; identify areas of potential risk; devise and implement appropriate risk-mitigation measures.
Collaborate with others in the Office of General Counsel and with supply chain, operations, insurance, risk management, and other departments to analyze business, regulatory, and legal contract terms.
Foster strong relationships with the various business segments and functional departments, and develop a deep understanding of their strategies and objectives to better serve their needs.
Assist with the resolution of commercial and corporate disputes.
Provide effective and competent management of outside counsel and advisors.
Ensure compliance with applicable law and company processes and procedures.
Other projects as assigned within the Office of General Counsel.
Basic Qualifications :
Seven (7) or more years of legal experience.
Specialized knowledge and experience in commercial law and transactions.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of applications.
Admitted to practice before Pennsylvania courts or eligible within one (1) year.
Preferred Qualifications :
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated team player with the ability to identify and resolve legal issues, balance legal and business concerns, and apply sound judgment in advising clients. S/he will also:
Have exceptional academic credentials and at least seven (7) years of experience as a commercial attorney, preferably including a combination of top law firm and in-house training.
Have deep experience partnering with and supporting supply chain, contracting, and legal teams, including reviewing, drafting, negotiating, interpreting and maintaining a variety of commercial contracts relating to engineering, procurement, construction, and project management.
Be skilled at reviewing, drafting, negotiating, interpreting and maintaining a wide range of vendor contracts, including confidentiality agreements and agreements for professional services, outsourced services, computer software and hardware, and cloud-based services.
Effectively communicate and interact with colleagues and clients at all levels of the organization, including senior management, and become a trusted advisor.
Prioritize and manage numerous time-sensitive projects simultaneously.
Perform well under tight deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Be team–oriented and collaborative when necessary, yet also able to work independently and efficiently, with minimal supervision.
