Mayo Clinic legal counsel provides legal advice and counsel for a world-class, non-profit, academic medical center and affiliated health care system. The position will be responsible for providing legal advice and counsel in the areas of general health law with a primary emphasis on complex medical/scientific research issues and government reimbursement/Medicare and Medicaid regulatory issues. Must have ability to manage multiple client relationships, with an understanding of and willingness to meet clients’ needs and business goals in a dynamic, team-based, multi-state, corporate legal department.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years’ experience to include advising clients on general health law and regulatory matters in the healthcare industry. Experience in one or more of the following practice areas preferred: health law, complex medical/scientific research regulations and government reimbursement/Medicare and Medicaid regulatory issues. Will retain and manage outside counsel, participate in staff education and may serve on institutional committees and task forces as needed. A strong academic background, as well as excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills are required. Must be an effective team player with a commitment to continuous professional improvement. Candidates should have sound legal project management skills and the ability to effectively lead teams, serve as a positive change agent, and delegate work in a fast-paced, team-based environment within a dynamic organization. Requires completion of law school and a license to practice law in the state of residence; must be eligible for a license in Minnesota.
