Sentry Insurance has an opportunity within its Corporate Legal Department in Stevens Point, WI for an Associate Counsel. The position requires a minimum of 5-10 years of specialized experience in the following areas:
Employment Law (Human Resources)
The specialized experience can be in private practice or in a corporate legal department.
In addition, the following experience is preferred, but not required:
General commercial transactions

What You’ll Do
Provides legal advice and counsel to management, including direct interaction with senior executives, in areas of legal specialization and in general legal matters to assist in addressing a wide range of legal and business issues.
Ensures efficient and quality legal advice and counsel is provided through written or verbal communication.
Interacts with policyholders, employees, agents, agencies, vendors and other business contacts as necessary.
Represents the Company, or selects and supervises outside counsel in the representation of the Company, in contested matters arising in courts, in administrative agencies and before regulatory bodies across the U.S. and in other countries in which the Company has interests.
Manages and controls expenses to contribute to the overall goals of the Corporate Legal Department.
Drafts documents, agreements, contracts and other materials requiring specific legal expertise.
Plans strategies for solving various legal and business problems, including litigation strategy, and has the primary responsibility for providing legal advice on these matters to management.
Assists management in developing operational strategies and solutions relating to corporate policy.
Reviews and analyzes enacted and proposed state and federal laws and regulations that affect the Company, and advises of the implications of such laws, regulations and draft legislation.
Works on projects assigned by the Associate General Counsel – Operations/Personnel Resources and General Counsel and normally involves research and recommendations on matters having Company-wide significance.
Develops and maintains professional contacts with other companies' legal departments and with members of local, state and national bar groups.
Represents the Company in industry groups as assigned
A minimum of 5-10 years of overall legal experience.
Strong academic background and a Juris Doctor degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
License to practice law.
Proven ability to interact effectively with a variety of people.
