Corporate Generalist, General Commercial/Contracts, Transactions
Delos is seeking an Associate General Counsel to join our talented legal team. The position will be located at our New York City office in the Meatpacking District. We seek an experienced lawyer who is a generalist with a broad range of skills and is able to provide business friendly legal solutions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while effectively mitigating and minimizing risk.
Provide business-focused, innovative solutions to complicated legal problems across a wide area of business functions and subject matters
Responsible for managing, negotiating, drafting and overseeing a variety of complex domestic and international commercial matters and agreements, as well as providing general corporate counsel and managing routine commercial contracts
Work closely with the other members of the legal team and both senior and junior commercial team members in multiple business functions
Provide ongoing legal guidance and support within the legal team as well as to the business teams
Help ensure ongoing compliance with state, federal and foreign laws and regulations applicable to the company’s business and operations to mitigate legal and other organizational risk
Research and become an expert on unfamiliar areas of the law to provide effective counsel
Contribute to other legal department responsibilities as needed
Skills and Abilities
Skillful drafter and issue-spotter with substantive experience and a high level of proficiency negotiating and drafting complex commercial agreements
Proven ability to comfortably and successfully manage multiple complex projects with competing priorities, both collaborating as a team and working independently
Provide creative, pragmatic business-oriented advice while properly balancing risks and business reward
Exceptional communication, analytical and writing skills, with ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization (from junior employees to executives) and distill complex legal concepts into practical, concise and plain-English advice
Team oriented individual with ability to learn quickly and acclimate to company culture
Roll-up-the sleeves attitude willing to tackle the matter at hand, whether unique and complicated or routine
Self-starter, possessing a high degree of self-motivation, with a demonstrated ability to drive results
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Highly available, dependable hard worker, with a positive attitude and desire to get things done
Comfortable working across time zones and cultures
Effective at managing outside legal counsel in a cost-effective manner
J.D. from U.S. accredited law school
Member in good standing of the bar of at least one state (NY preferred)
Minimum of 7 years of experience in sophisticated commercial and transactional matters, preferably in a global environment
A mix of both in-house and law firm experience preferred
Experience working in a high-growth environment (technology start-up or similar) a plus
