Overview: Hillspire is seeking a Director of Legal and Compliance to report to its General Counsel and partner with the other team members on a variety of corporate, governance, and tax matters. Hillspire is an integrated family office serving the investments, activities and foundations of Eric and Wendy Schmidt. The Schmidt entities, including the foundations, employ approximately 200 employees, ranging from investment professionals, finance/accounting staff, property managers, pilots, sailors, and a diverse range of other individuals. Hillspire is the corporate manager and provider of centralized shared services for these entities and employees.
Location: The position will be based in Menlo Park, CA (Bay Area).
Experience: This lawyer will have top tier academic credentials and 5-10 years of legal experience, including significant time spent in a top tier law firm setting doing corporate transactional work. In addition to possessing a solid background in general corporate, finance, and governance matters, this attorney will have expertise in areas impacting private foundations and exempt organizations, as well as meaningful experience and working knowledge of tax law concepts. This lawyer will be comfortable as a “generalist,” but possess a strong area of expertise, ideally in one or more of the following categories: tax, exempt organizations and/or trusts & estates. While additional in-house experience is desirable, it is not a requirement.
