Our client, a dynamic consumer driven company in the Minneapolis area, is seeking an experienced Data Privacy/Cybersecurity lawyer who can manage and provide advice to all aspects of issues while advising the company on legal matters related to the internet, e-commerce, and data privacy and security. This role will provide guidance and focus on the storage and management of information within computer networks and cyberspace. Identifies and manages risks to the business while serving as trusted advisor when counseling management.
Responsibilities for this role will include the following:
Guide and educate the business on best practices and trends in regards to consumer protection laws, privacy laws, cyber security, and e-commerce and e-discovery issues.
Support the planning, design, development, implementation, maintenance of, and adherence to a comprehensive global privacy plan
Advise and support cybersecurity and information security leaders at all levels of governance, oversight, policy development, implementation, compliance, and monitoring; cyber security defense, preparedness and response; security products, systems, networks and operations
Draft and implement privacy policies and procedures for the company surrounding privacy and security law
Partner with business to help drive innovative products that are privacy centric by design
Lead cross functional projects by supporting the strategic business priorities and influence decision making
Ensure that corporate data collection, storage and protection programs are consistent and comply with legal requirements
Resolve legal information-security issues involving security technology, databases, information networks, and international service delivery of technology
Advise on notification and other obligations in connection with security and privacy incidents and incident response programs
Identify and assess the legal risks and opportunities and advise accordingly
Partner with outside counsel if needed
Candidates must have the following qualifications in order to be considered:
10+ years of experience as a practicing attorney
Strong knowledge in global privacy and cyber security laws
A strong academic record from top schools
Strong organizational skills, ability to juggle multiple priorities & meet short deadlines, and work in a very fast-paced environment
Strong advocacy, negotiation, interpersonal, and legal research skills
Strategic and innovative thinker
Employer will assist with relocation costs.
