Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA) has been exclusively retained by Circle Internet Financial Ltd. to conduct a search for a Chief Legal Officer to be located in its Boston, MA or New York, NY offices. Circle is an equal opportunity employer. Interested candidates should send a resume to Nicole Lipman and Nancy Reiner at email@example.com. Please do not contact Circle directly; all resumes sent to Circle will be routed to MLA for handling and will result in delay.
OVERVIEW: The Chief Legal Officer will function as a critical strategic advisor and serve as an important member of the executive leadership team. Reporting to Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO Jeremy Allaire and Co-Founder and President Sean Neville, the CLO will provide commercially-minded and product-driven legal support for all aspects of Circle’s new and existing initiatives and products, and manage and oversee the legal department. The CLO will be the face of Circle’s legal team to the world’s regulators. The CLO will provide advice on a spectrum of legal matters of both strategic and tactical importance, including domestic and global regulatory frameworks (both legacy and emerging), government relations, consumer financial regulatory issues, strategic partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, operational issues, payments, lending, intellectual property, litigation, employment, compliance, and international and domestic expansion. The CLO will be effective in moving between a hands-on, operations-focused view and a strategic outlook.
COMPANY: Circle is on a mission to make it possible for everyone, everywhere to create and share value. Circle is building a new kind of consumer finance. Unlike existing systems that are closed and proprietary, Circle uses open internet standards and protocols, including the blockchain, to build its products.
Circle has already made sending money around the world free and as easy as sending a text with Circle Pay. With Circle Trade, Circle is a market maker for the top cryptocurrencies and offers OTC trading services. Now, Circle has expanded its offerings by launching Circle Invest (https://invest.circle.com), a cryptocurrency investment product that enables anyone to buy and sell cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Circle recently acquired leading cryptocurrency exchange platform Poloniex, a move that makes Circle one of the most important and largest companies in the cryptocurrency industry.
Circle is tapping into unthought of ways to move, share, trade and invest money. What does that mean for the global economy? It's more open. More inclusive. And more empowering.
EXPERIENCE: The Chief Legal Officer will have 15+ years of relevant in-house and major law firm experience in the consumer financial services, consumer fintech, or consumer technology sectors. Experience working within a complex regulatory environment preferred, as well as leadership experience in building, managing, and developing high performing teams. Ideal candidate will have experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions, and managing teams to achieve strategic goals.
COMPENSATION: Competitive base and bonus plus equity commensurate with experience.
LOCATION: The CLO will ideally work in Circle’s Boston offices (preferred), but this person could also potentially work in Circle’s New York offices.
