The Staff Attorney performs highly responsible tasks for the General Counsel and Legal team. This individual works as an individual contributor or project leader for routine legal assignments, applies considerable experience and advanced professional legal knowledge to assignments and performs assignments independently. This position will work with the General Counsel and Counsel to provide legal support to all departments and functions of a large non-profit trade association, as well as its for-profit subsidiary conducting leading educational training and certification, and its related charitable foundation,
Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills required.
Strong interpersonal skills, independence, creativity, judgment, initiative and work ethic.
Ability to draft and negotiate a wide variety of contracts, documents and legal instruments.
Experience with complex corporate governance, including drafting and interpreting bylaws, committee charters, and similar policies is preferred.
Experience with trade associations or non-profit law helpful, but not required.
Conduct legal or other research, develop and write memoranda, speeches, and articles.
Familiarity with analyzing state and federal laws, regulations, court rules, policies and policy proposals.
Support member sub-groups or advisory committees and coordinate with external constituencies
Provides legal assistance on legislative policy matters; providing advice and counsel on legal matters.
Draft, review and negotiate strategic partner agreements such as MOU’s, NDA’s and trial agreements that support Product Development and go-to-market efforts.
.Works on special projects and other duties as required helping to promote groups success. Exposure to a wide variety of legal issues and matters is preferred.
License to practice law in the District of Columbia.
Minimum of 4-8 years experience.
Excellent written, verbal, analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Ability to research, formulate counsel and provide clear guidance on complex legal questions or inquiries.
Ability to quickly and effectively analyze complex laws, regulations and the external risk environment and to succinctly and competently provide effective solution-based legal advice taking into consideration legal risk and business objectives.
Ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues and professional staff as well as internal and member groups in providing legal services.
Must be able to maintain good rapport with all Association groups
Must be able to cope within a fast-paced work environment
Must be able to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision
Must be able to understand the importance of the position for the success of the business
Ability to accept changes and be flexible
Be on time and with a minimal amount of absence
