Witt/Kieffer is assisting Government Employees Health Association (GEHA) based in Lee’s Summit/Kansas City, Missouri, in recruiting its new Vice President, General Counsel. We bring this important position to your attention because of your expertise in health care legal matters in the hope that you might assist us in identifying potential candidates who have the appropriate experience and background for this exciting opportunity. The General Counsel is the highest legal leadership role at GEHA, providing legal advice and representation on a variety of business and regulatory issues, coordinating use of external counsel and providing executive sponsorship of the compliance program and internal audit function. Along with the senior management team, the General Counsel will develop and lead GEHA’s corporate legal strategy to promote and protect the organization. The General Counsel is a key strategic partner to the CEO and senior leadership team and will provide senior leadership with effective advice on company strategies and their implementation, manage the legal function, and work cross-functionally to achieve business results. This is an outstanding opportunity to lead the legal strategy and well-regarded, successful legal team in a thriving and growth oriented health plan.

The successful candidate must have excellent academic credentials, a law degree from an ABA accredited school of law, membership in the Missouri State Bar or eligibility for admission based on reciprocity is required and an outstanding record of achievement with at least 15+ years of senior leadership experience in the practice of law. Legal experience achieved in a health care setting, ideally experience within a health plan or insurance related organization is helpful.
