Overview: The US General Counsel is responsible for leading corporate strategic and tactical legal initiatives for all Company subsidiaries in the US and Canada. The US General Counsel provides senior management with effective advice on company strategies and their implementation, manages the legal function, and obtains and oversees the work of outside counsel. The US General Counsel is directly involved in complex business transactions and negotiating critical contracts.
Company: Company is a publicly traded chemical, and petro-chemical company with $5.7b in revenue, 18,000 employees and operations in 30 countries.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
Experience: A corporate generalist with a minimum of ten years’ experience both in law firms and in-house. At least five of those years must have been spent working in the US. Experience working on complex commercial transactions, advising management on strategic matters including intellectual property protection, managing litigation and advising on labor and employment matters. Must be fluent in Spanish.
Relos: Yes, but local candidates are preferred.
Bar: Must have a J.D. or equivalent from an accredited law school, and must be licensed to practice in at least one jurisdiction in the US.
