Overview: The General Counsel (GC) will serve as the primary legal counsel to the Company, and will advise the CEO, the Board of Directors and the other executive leaders of the Company. The GC also will be responsible for all legal affairs for the Company, including contracts with property management companies, corporate governance, SEC and stock exchange matters if applicable in the future, general commercial contracts, intellectual property, capital raising transactions, acquisitions and dispositions, litigation, real estate transactions, compliance programs and human resources including a large part-time labor force and a growing independent contractor labor force. GC candidates must have expertise in most of the following areas: corporate governance; public company matters (as may be applicable in the future); financing; regulatory matters; licensing; employment law issues; and business to consumer agreements as Valet Living expands its service offerings. Expertise in property management is desired but not required, and ideally experience dealing with property management companies on matters including issues with fire codes and trash hauling regulations.
Company: Valet Living is a 22-year old company that has agreements with property managers who own and operate over 900,000 multi-family apartment homes nationally (out of a total market of 8.3 million apartment homes in its markets and 23 million nationally). Its largest competitor offers services to only 200,000 apartment homes. Valet Living offers property managers turn-key cleanup and refurbishment services when residents move out, which happens 11.5 million times per year in the US. Valet Living also offers services to residents that enhance property value and market appeal for property managers, including door side waste and recycling pick-up, porter hours to assist maintenance teams and pet waste stations. A rapidly growing company with over $100 million of annual revenue (four fold revenue increase in the last five years) and approximately 400 full time associates and over 3,000 independent contractors, Valet Living plans to triple its revenue in the next few years. The management team has experience in much larger companies and a strong track record of successful growth. Backed by the large PE firm Ares, Valet Living is poised for expansion and operates with the culture of a start-up. Compensation: Competitive compensation commensurate with experience.
Experience: The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and be a great problem solver. In addition, the GC should have 12-15+ years of legal experience, including service as a General Counsel or Deputy General Counsel in a similarly sized or larger company that ideally serves the multi-unit dwelling industry. Candidates must possess considerable in-house experience as a corporate transactional lawyer with a preference for candidates from real estate related companies and be capable of handling all of the legal and business issues associated with advising a private or public company with an active growth agenda.
Relocation: Yes. The corporate headquarters is located in Tampa though several executives commute from other cities.
