MarkWest/MPLX seeks an experienced lawyer to work a full time schedule as an independent contractor. This lawyer will have direct interaction with personnel in the organization. This position will be responsible for reviewing, commenting upon, and negotiating various types of contracts on behalf of MarkWest, including master service agreements, master purchase agreements, purchase orders, company terms and conditions, consulting agreements, professional service contracts, and software agreements. The position will involve a high degree of responsibility and autonomy. MarkWest would like this lawyer to be an energetic, experienced professional who is passionate about the practice of business law and can manage balancing priorities.
Providing advice, counseling, and legal support regarding a wide range of contracts
Reviewing/drafting/negotiating various contracts and transactional documents, including without limitation, the following:
Master service agreements, master purchase agreements, professional service contracts and other vendor contracts
Regular communication and interaction with a very fast-paced but collegial corporate legal department.
• Bachelor’s Degree and J.D. from an ABA accredited school and licensed to practice law for at least five years in one or more states • 5 or more years of U.S. legal practice with experience drafting/negotiating agreements and documents • Experience with the contracts listed above • Some oil & gas/energy/natural resources experience is preferred • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, drafting and communication skills • The ability to confidently interact with colleagues and adversaries and to translate difficult legal principles into practical business solutions • Must understand reality of litigation process • Quick learner with a high degree of common sense and resourcefulness, and the ability to work independently and prioritize multiple time-sensitive tasks • Highest levels of integrity, discretion and maturity • Ability to travel as needed • Excellent references
