The Senior Counsel will develop, coordinate, supervise and administer the provision of complex legal services for the Sempra Renewables and Sempra LNG & Midstream business units under the direction of the Assistant General Counsel and in conjunction with managers of various commercial areas. Work includes: project development, project acquisition, project execution, recourse and non-recourse project financing, tax equity financing, and joint ventures.
Provide legal support for the structuring, negotiation and documentation of a variety of complex and ordinary course transactions for the Sempra Renewables and Sempra LNG & Midstream business units, including greenfield project development, project acquisitions, recourse and non-recourse financings, tax equity financings, joint ventures, commercial contracts, and other business arrangements.
Coordinate, implement and monitor legal services in connection with specific projects that are undertaken by Sempra Renewables and Sempra LNG & Midstream and to otherwise facilitate and achieve the business units’ objectives, including working closely with internal and external counsel, along with the senior managers within Sempra Renewables, Sempra LNG & Midstream and Sempra Energy.
Primarily responsible for oversight of specific matters and transactions.
Requires a Bachelor's degree and J.D. or L.L.B. from an accredited law school.
Member in good standing of a US State Bar, with a preference for CA, NY or TX.
At least 6 years of post-qualification experience, with the demonstrated experience in project development and finance and project acquisitions.
Project development experience in the energy industry is preferred.
Experience with a well-established law firm with an international project development and finance practice.
Able to analyze complex business situations and develop recommendations which meet the company’s legal and business needs.
Ability to prioritize conflicting demands from multiple business clients in a fast paced environment while paying attention to detail.
Proven communication, and interpersonal skills, ability to work well independently and in a team setting.
Ability to interface effectively with all levels of a complex organization; ability to build excellent working relationships within multiple working groups.
