We are seeking an attorney with 8+ years of first chair jury trial experience with training from a law firm or in-house legal department. Candidates must be self-sufficient and assertive.
Under the direction of the General Counsel, the Senior Counsel is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day litigation needs of the company. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Take lead role in working on and monitoring the litigation caseload of the company;
• Make all court appearances, and supervise others in the prosecution or defense of litigation;
• Assist General Counsel in selection, retention, management and evaluation of outside counsel handling litigation for the company;
• In conjunction with General Counsel, evaluate merits of cases filed against or on behalf of the company, work with General Counsel and the appropriate executive(s) to define strategic plans in handling the cases;
Experience, Training, and Education Requirements:
Experience as first chair in jury trials, with emphasis on personal injury, habitability, and employment matters.
Knowledge of landlord-tenant, real estate law, federal and state fair housing laws and applicable local, state, and federal housing provisions a plus.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Manage outside counsel handling litigation,
Keep up to date on and advise General Counsel on new laws and their effect on client's businesses.
Qualifications / Requirements:
Must be able to work independently, as well as part of a team as needed.
Must be able to communicate effectively with the various team members, and be able to delegate and accept assignments as required.
Physical Requirements: This position primarily performs sedentary office work. Require some kneeling, reaching, pulling, and bending for accessing to files. Require use of computers, copiers, and telephones. Must be able to climb stairs. Occasionally requires lifting 20 pounds or less.
