Garrison & Sisson has been exclusively engaged to assist an alternative fuel trade association in its inaugural search for a General Counsel. Reporting directly to the organization’s CEO, the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary will serve as a member of the senior management team.
His/her duties will include, among others:
(1) Serving as the substantive expert on all regulatory matters affecting the industry, with particular emphasis on the Renewable Fuel Standards Act and the Clean Air Act;
(2) Providing operational support to the non-profit organization and its activities (e.g. in the form of contract review and negotiation; employment issues; IP issues; political law; establish protocols (record retention, anti-harassment policy, conduct audit of existing policies to determine their adequacy and /or need to be updated, etc.), and the preparation of templates for the organization’s use; and
(3) Corporate governance (e.g. interaction with Board of Directors, preparation of Board minutes and resolutions, establishment or monitoring of policies and procedures, etc.).
In addition, the General Counsel’s regulatory background will enable him/her to respond with comments to proposed rule makings before the EPA, DOE, DOC, FDA and USDA and offer a “legal perspective” regarding the impact of certain regulations or proposed regulations on the organization’s mission and related actions.
