Fortune 250 company headquartered in NYC seeks a Workers Compensation attorney for an IN-HOUSE opportunity in the Office of the General Counsel. Must be adept at handling workers' compensation cases and defending claims before the NYS Workers' Compensation Board. Some of the primary responsibilities of this position will include:
Providing advice and counsel to management and staff on all Workers’ Compensation issues
Representing the Company in the litigation of Workers’ Compensation matters, Administrative hearings and state court appellate actions
Managing outside counsel in the administration and defense of Workers’ Compensation claims
Drafting appeals, motions, briefs, memoranda, etc., and reviewing the work of outside counsel on complex high-exposure claims
Directing third-party administrator in the processing and payment of Workers’ Compensation claims
Keeping up to date and advising management on proposed legislation and regulations related to Workers’ Compensation

At least 4+ years' experience in a Workers' Compensation practice at a mid-size law firm or Staff Counsel office
Significant experience representing clients in legal and administrative proceedings before the NYS Workers' Compensation Board
Understanding of Workers' Compensation claim process, and experience negotiating settlements, attending hearings, conducting depositions, and drafting and developing related litigation and settlement documentation
Ability to manage outside counsel on day to day claims activity and provide oversight of third-party administrator
Must be a persuasive negotiator with strong presentation and communication skills
NY bar admission required
