The Brattle Group is seeking to retain an additional full-time Associate General Counsel to support the firm. Reporting to the General Counsel, this position will be primarily responsible for providing general legal support on issues arising from the firm’s commercial activities, including drafting and negotiating a wide variety of engagement contracts, licenses, NDAs, and other commercial and legal commitments. In addition, this position will assist the Legal Department to address internal legal and corporate matters, including:
Providing support in such areas as copyright and other intellectual property rights as well as information and data security and privacy;
Identifying and analyzing legal risks and proposing appropriate actions to ensure operational compliance with relevant laws, legal commitments, and policies, and advising on, preparing, and educating on corporate policies and on the application of such policies to specific engagements;
Providing advice to and collaborating with other corporate services departments (HR, IT, Planning & Business Analysis, Marketing, Business Support Services, and Accounting) on a wide variety of commercial, employment, employee benefit, and corporate issues arising in day-to-day operations;
Assisting to identify potential conflicts of interest and providing input regarding options for resolution of such conflicts;
Maintaining qualification and insurance requirements in jurisdictions in which the firm does business;
Providing advice and legal support related to corporate documents, such as bylaws, shareholder agreements, and with annual share transactions;
Assisting with corporate real estate matters; and
Providing other legal support as requested from time to time by the General Counsel.
This position requires strong organizational, collaboration, and time management skills, as well as the ability to handle numerous projects and deliverables simultaneously. The ideal candidate will possess:
Exceptional academic background, with a J.D. degree from a fully accredited law school and an active license, in good standing, to practice law in at least one state;
At least five years’ relevant post-law school experience, with a combination of large law firm and in-house (preferably in professional services firm) experience required, with litigation experience a plus;
A hands-on philosophy for both large and small tasks;
knowledge of contract, commercial and general business laws and regulations,
drafting and negotiation experience, and
interpersonal and collaborative skills;
thrive in a fast-paced office environment handling multiple tasks and demands,
exercise appropriate judgment, discretion, and confidentiality, and
articulate clear and concise positions.
Evening work as well as occasional travel may be required.
