JOB SUMMARY: The In-House Staff Attorney position is primarily responsible for overseeing the management of and assessing litigation pending against the Company on a national basis. The In-House Staff Attorney position will provide input to and manage outside counsel in the handling of litigation as well as oversee the financial expenditure of the cases and relevant financial analyses, and ensure appropriate reserving and communication with Securitas USA insurers. This position is also responsible for handling EP and GL claims and attorney letters received by the Company and will also be responsible for completing legal research projects. In addition, the In-House Staff Attorney will be called upon to assist the Risk Management Department with indemnity claim reviews and support other departments, such as the Real Estate Department. This position may be called upon to also assist with the review of training and advertising materials, the drafting of policies, and other tasks on an as needed basis. Bankruptcy experience is desirable but not mandatory.
Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, the In-House Staff Attorney is responsible for:
Performing case assessments.
Overseeing and managing outside counsel handling litigation pending against the Company.
Attending arbitrations/mediations/court hearings as necessary.
Managing the financial expenditures of litigation cases, including reserving and billing.
Performing financial analyses to ensure optimization of case outcome.
Handling EP and some GL claims.
Handling and responding to EP attorney letters received by the Company.
Completing legal research projects as needed.
Assisting with the drafting and implementation of policies.
Assisting with the review of training and advertising materials.
Assisting with indemnity claims and tenders from other parties.
Some travel required
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
Admitted to the bar.
Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of practice, preferably initially with a prominent national law firm before moving to an in-house position.
Experience working on matters of employment law and general liability law preferred.
Overall broad legal knowledge (litigation, employment law, general liability law).
Works independently with minimal assistance from outside sources, including external law firms.
In-depth understanding of how legal issues affect organizations.
Ability to develop legal strategy and objectives.
Excellent judgment and analytic skills with special focus on a solution-oriented approach to situations.
First class interpersonal and communication skills.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Westlaw, etc. Willingness to become proficient in company risk management program and Legal Tracker billing programs.
