The Senior Attorney independently provides very high value legal services on complex matters to advance Conservancy priorities and appropriately manage risk. This position provides legal advice and direction to various clients, including those involved in the philanthropic development, marketing, corporate engagements, external affairs, finance and conservation functions of the organization as needed. Advises clients primarily on philanthropic activities including providing counsel on: Structures and restrictions on tax exempt organizations; Charitable donations classification and deductibility; State solicitation regulations; Charitable gift annuities; Professional solicitors and fundraising counsel; Consumer protection, such as disclosures, commercial co-ventures and charitable sales promotions; Unrelated business income tax; and Private benefit.
This position is full-time, exempt and requires a Juris Doctorate or equivalent and license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, plus seven (7) years of relevant legal experience, including at least three (3) years of experience working with public charity or tax-exempt organization law, drafting and negotiating a range of complex contracts and transactions.
