United Therapeutics is a growing biotechnology company with an increasing volume of contractual matters. We are looking for a lawyer with a broad ability to handle all manner of contracts relevant to the biopharmaceutical industry. This individual will report to the Vice President, Associate General Counsel and join a small legal team with broad exposure to all aspects of our business. You can expect fast-paced work in a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate would have significant industry experience, and a flexible approach to addressing a high-volume contract workload in a way that protects the company’s interests without slowing down the business.
Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities
Review, draft and negotiate all manner of contracts relevant to a company in the biopharmaceutical industry, including NDAs, master services agreements, distribution agreements, lease agreements, construction agreements, manufacturing and supply agreements, clinical trial agreements, marketing agreements, consulting agreements, etc.
Develop, update and maintain contracting templates
Provide legal advice to internal teams on contract matters, including transaction structuring, contract interpretation and enforcement, risk assessment, legal and regulatory compliance and corporate policies
Coordinate and assist in developing policies,procedures and systemsto support and facilitate efficient contract development and analysis
Monitor the legal environment and trends concerning contracts
Manage outside legal counsel with regard to contract matters
J.D. from an accredited law school
Must be an active member in good standing of any state bar
Must have 4+ years’ experience as a lawyer
Significant in-house experience reviewing and negotiating contracts (including clinical trial agreements) at a pharmaceutical or biotechnology company
Knowledge of contract, commercial and general business laws and regulations
Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills, and extremely high attention to detail
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Mac/PC and Microsoft Office proficient
Must have strong problem-solving and decision making skills
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
Ability to gain trust at, and work with, all levels of the organization
Comfortable with providing training to large groups of employees relative to contracts
Ability to prioritize workload and self-manage projects, handle multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines
Able to assert own ideas and persuade others through effectively consolidating, evaluating, and presenting relevant information
