PLS is at an exciting juncture, and the Corporate Counsel will play a critical role in the continued growth and success of the company as we work to expand our online presence. The Corporate Counsel will lead legal department efforts to facilitate the expansion of both online marketing and services. The Corporate Counsel will also work on other projects and provide advice to departments in all areas of the business. The Corporate Counsel will report to the Senior Counsel.
Provide legal guidance to a leading consumer financial services company on topics related to digital commerce, website development, and a mobile application
Advise on a variety of projects in areas such as prepaid products, insurance, collections, and government regulation
Review marketing materials, including social media and digital content
Review, draft and negotiate contracts for a wide variety of purposes
Monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting marketing and advertising of financial services and products
Responsible for general legal work in areas such as corporate policies and procedures, training, real estate, governmental regulation and others, as dictated by business needs.
Support the development and implementation by the legal team of processes, procedures and metrics to increase the overall effectiveness of the legal services provided to the company
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in Illinois
4-8 years of practical hands-on experience in a law firm or in-house
Previous experience specifically related to marketing and advertising through digital marketing and social media
Previous experience with consumer financial services or other highly regulated industry is a plus
Previous experience advising management on a wide variety of legal matters, working with outside counsel, and drafting and negotiating contracts.
Possess sound legal and business judgment and have a history of successful dispute resolution
Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to work well with employees and management at all levels within the company, as well as with outside parties
Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time
