The Vice President and Assistant General Counsel is a generalist media law position with an emphasis on contractual matters. The Vice President and Assistant General Counsel will work closely with in-house business departments of both companies on business and strategic issues. The Vice President and Assistant General Counsel will be a member of a five-attorney legal team and report to the Senior Vice President and General Counsel, New York Daily News/U.S. News & World Report.
The attorney will work independently but collaboratively as part of a collegial and fast-paced legal department that provides services to the Daily News and U.S. News & World Report. This position is based in New York City.

The in-house legal department of the Daily News and U.S. News is comprised of attorneys specializing in contracts, corporate law, first amendment, intellectual property, employment, labor, and litigation issues.
Advise in-house business departments on various legal issues and risks and company policies and procedures.
Draft, negotiate, and review a variety of agreements, including in the areas of licensing, technology, advertising, purchasing, software, and services.
Advise on copyright and trademark matters.
Provide support for pre-publication vetting when primary vetting attorney is unavailable.
Counsel business departments in a variety of areas, including

o Sweepstakes and promotions

Qualifications & Skills:
The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of legal experience gained through a combination of top tier law firm and in-house or government settings primarily focused on corporate matters.
Expertise handling contract matters is required.
JD from top law school, with strong academic credentials.
Admission to New York bar.
