Encore is looking for a dynamic and experienced attorney to fill a vital role in the Legal Department’s support of the company at the direction of the EVP – Chief Legal & Admin Officer. The VP – Associate General Counsel is responsible for providing leadership to the business on all legal, regulatory, and related matters, as well as embracing the legal strategy within the Encore division, and the Freeman Group as a whole. This key individual will help Encore achieve its objectives in a legally compliant manager, adeptly balancing compliance and risk management thinking with the business acumen required to succeed in both existing and new business areas. This position will collaborate with other attorneys globally across the Freeman Group as well as key third party partners on shared initiatives.
Oversees all legal matters in functional areas of responsibility to protect Company assets and provided preventative advice.
Advising the company and senior management on a broad range of federal and state regulatory and compliance matters, including identifying areas of risk and making suggestions for improvement.
Provides counsel to management at all levels of the Company to ensure legal compliance and participates as part of a team to facilitate strategic initiatives.
Preparing, reviewing and negotiating company contracts, requests for proposals and other legal documents.
Negotiating commercial transactions on behalf of the company.
Managing outside counsel and developing strategy for litigation and regulatory proceedings.
Anticipating and mitigating potential legal problems within the organization and developing strategies to avoid costly litigation and reduce potential areas of risk.
Prepares budgetary, succession and developmental plans for the Law Department to ensure alignment and effectiveness of Department functions.
Direct the Encore legal team employees.
Other responsibilities as assigned
Law Degree (JD or LLB) from an accredited Law School is required.
Must be a member in good standing of a state bar and currently licensed to practice law in the US.
Minimum 10+ years of strategic leadership is required.
International legal experience is required.
Comprehensive knowledge of commercial law and application to daily business activities.
Proven understanding of global labor and employment law, as well as demonstrated ability to recognize and weigh business and legal risk, think strategically and advance a timely, practical solution.
Solid understanding of litigation costs and expense controls to manage trial counsel and negotiate settlements where appropriate.
Demonstrated verbal and written communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
Urgency and results focus to ensure timely and appropriate response to issues raised.
Proven contract negotiations skills.
Ability to build relationships and influence cross functional divisions
