Located at ArcelorMittal’s North American headquarters in downtown Chicago, this is an outstanding opportunity for an energetic commercial attorney with good business acumen and strong interpersonal skills to join ArcelorMittal’s collegial Law Department and handle a variety of commercial matters in support of ArcelorMittal’s U.S. operations.
The Commercial Counsel will be responsible for providing legal support on a variety of commercial, contract and real estate matters, which shall include the following:
Review, draft and negotiate a wide variety of agreements arising out of ArcelorMittal’s U.S. operations, including sales contracts and their terms and conditions, consulting, vendor, non-disclosure, license, credit, financing and complex asset transactions.
Provide legal support on real estate and environmental matters.
Provide ongoing and proactive counsel on contract interpretation, including warranty, indemnity and potential dispute issues.
Consistently guard against and provide timely evaluation of potential risks in contractual, regulatory, and other legal areas. Perform due diligence on potential dispute issues as required.
Handle other commercial matters or projects as requested.
A J. D. from an accredited law school, with proven academic success.
3-5 years’ relevant experience with a law firm and/or corporate law department independently reviewing, drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements, preferably on behalf of a large manufacturing company. Prior experience supporting real estate transactions, banking and finance transactions, and merger and acquisition transactions is helpful.
Strong business acumen and the ability to quickly understand ArcelorMittal’s business, to quickly focus in on the aspects of an agreement or transaction that matter the most to the business, and be proactive in addressing potential issues.
Outstanding judgment, flexibility and strong analytic ability, with an ability to proactively determine, prioritize and resolve issues. Creativity and resourcefulness, with a drive to achieve positive results.
Excellent client management skills, with an ability to inspire confidence and trust with a variety of clients by virtue of keen business acumen, professional competence, integrity, and personal style.
Proven written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely articulate complex legal concepts to a lay audience.
Strong cross-cultural communication skills, including experience working with non-U.S. business people and attorneys.
Demonstrated success working on a global, multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
