POSITION SUMMARY: Conducts technical patent and literature searches and analyzes technical search results relative to products in support of patentability and infringement analyses, assess IP portfolio, track metrics and coordinate patent prosecution under supervision of in-house counsel
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Coordinate U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, including obtaining current product design information and prior art, analyzing prior art, assist with drafting technical disclosures and responses to patent office actions, and obtaining assignments and formal documentation for patent applications . • Conduct competitive patent landscape searches and analyze results. • Conduct patentability and patent landscape searches, review and analyze results. • Facilitate and track the clearance of all potential new products in development. • Engage research and development teams to harvest inventions. • Track invention disclosures. • Assist in-house IP counsel with developing training programs for R&D staff on all relevant IP topics and coordinating the delivery of IP training. • Support in-house IP counsel on a variety of additional, important IP matters, including in executing on company’s IP strategy, obtaining and analyzing patents and prior art for M&A and licensing activities, assisting in pre-suit investigations, inventorying and managing trade secrets, reviewing technical materials before disclosure, and preparing reports concerning IP data and operations (patents filed, issued, etc.). • Manage IP docket and IP database. • Other duties as may be assigned and appropriate. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Education: Bachelor's in Engineering, preferably, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, and more preferably an advanced engineering degree. • Professional licenses: Registered U.S. Patent Agent. • Experience: 8-10 years of experience prosecuting patent applications and conducting patent searches (patentability, freedom-to-operate and patent landscape) and analyzing results for a medical device or consumer product company and/or a law firm; experience working as an engineer in a corporate research or development function a plus; experience with design patents a plus • Proficient in MS Office suite including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook and IP portfolio analysis software. • Excellent oral and written communications.
