Rare in-house opportunity exists for a tax associate or counsel with a strong interest in public policy and the intersection of law and policy. Our client, a membership and trade organization, seeks an attorney with 5-12 years of experience in a Chambers ranked tax practice. Significant knowledge of the tax treatment of regulated investment companies and their shareholders, international transactions, corporations and partnerships is ideal. This position results from an opening created by an attorney who we placed in this role five years ago, who was recently recruited to join the in-house legal department of a client member.
The substantive mix of work is varied and will include matters at the forefront of legislative change (e.g. tax reform and derivatives taxation). As one of three tax attorneys for the organization, you will have your own portfolio of matters/issues to manage. Accordingly, you will be able to distinguish yourself as an authority on substantive issues through presentations, papers/other commentary and involvement on behalf of the organization and its industry membership. Public speaking (before member leadership, government personnel, outside counsel and the media) will be a consistent feature of this position. *Role best suited to a dynamic “tax geek” with a curious mind and ability to build relationships both within and outside of the organization. Highly appealing, lifestyle friendly, and unique culture even for an in-house environment.
