Our client, a leading provider of automotive financial services, has engaged us on an exclusive basis to identify a Managing Counsel with a strong Consumer Finance and Compliance background for its Plano, TX office.
The primary role is to support the life cycle of automotive finance accounts and to actively advise, support and train on compliance matters.
This position offers significant responsibility on a wide range of matters, close interaction with business partners and internal clients, opportunities to advance, and a collegial and collaborative work environment with a work/life balance. The attorney hired will report to the Assistant General Counsel.
Deliver timely, accurate, effective and efficient legal advice to the business partners.
Assist the consumer products team and the legal department with monitoring and implementation of legal and regulatory developments in the areas of servicing and CFPB readiness in the consumer lending and leasing areas with particular emphasis in support of the customer service centers, operations.
Review and analyze business practices and proposals for compliance.
Represent the legal department in cross-functional teams and task forces formed to implement new business or legal initiatives.
Closely partner with compliance team in areas of responsibility.
Communicate legal opinions and recommendations simply, effectively, persuasively and professionally.
Review and analyze business practices and proposals for compliance with federal and 50 state laws and regulations regarding the following areas of law and products:servicing, collections, SCRA, FDCPA, debt collection, repossessions, bankruptcy, title perfection, remarketing, REG AB, and team member training.
Assist business partners with identification and advice on legal issues involved in the development of new products, programs and services.
Provide review of forms, policies and procedures, agreements, concept proposals and other related matters.
Supervise legal assistant and administrative staff in the performance of team member’s duties and in support of team member’s work.
10-20 years' experience in consumer finance and compliance.
Experience in servicing and collection of consumer credit accounts.
In-house experience a plus.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with senior management.
Must have strong academic credentials and a stable work history.
