The Discovery Center is a team of legal associates that provide oversight, coordinate, and manage requests for data, documents, or information from Edward Jones and produce documents, data and information to regulators, litigants, and other stakeholders. The Discovery Center functions as an eDiscovery hub within the Edward Jones Legal Division. The associates in the Discovery Center are subject matter experts who work closely with other Edward Jones business areas to ensure the integrity, validity, and consistency of the data, documents, and information leaving the firm and provide support to the Legal Division along an entire spectrum of eDiscovery activities. Accuracy, professionalism, integrity and timeliness are essential in all work performed by this team.
Supervise, recruit, retain, develop and provide strong leadership of the Edward Jones Discovery Center and its members. The role includes leading personnel, cultivating strengths of each team member and supporting development towards future responsibilities, planning strategically to accommodate further growth of the team, and becoming familiar with all aspects of the various workflows performed by the team.
Provide legal advice and guidance to senior Legal Division and Firm Leaders related to eDiscovery, Information Governance, and data and information protection.
Advise and support the General Counsel and the Deputy General Counsel responsible for External Legal Matters, especially regarding eDiscovery, data protection and other topics relevant to the end users of Discovery Center.
Work closely with end users of Discovery Center, including the lawyers in the Regulatory, Litigation, Complaints and Legal Service teams.
Partner with IS, Compliance, and Operations, as well as within the Legal Division, to improve workflow and increase efficiency and timely production of documents and data.
Oversee the management of the Edward Jones Legal Hold Program.
Manage and oversight technology systems and applications within Legal Division, including Legal Files and other eDiscovery tools.
Maintain knowledge of litigation, arbitration, regulatory, and other discovery and document production requirements and best practices in the areas of discovery and eDiscovery. Be familiar with the relevant rules impacting the firm in these areas.
Learn and understand various proprietary systems utilized by the firm's Information Systems Division as well as relevant business areas to acquire knowledge of Edward Jones archiving, data, and records systems.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with associates within the Legal Department as well as in relevant business areas, Compliance, IS, and various levels of leadership within the firm.
Maintain professional relationships with outside counsel and vendors.
Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) and state bar admission is required
Sound judgment, decision making, and conflict resolution skills.
Commitment to the highest level of ethics, professionalism, and confidentiality;
Significant experience with litigation or an adversarial legal practice in a high-volume environment.
Ability to lead and motivate a significant team of associates. The team currently consists of five associates and is expected to grow.
Capacity for strong risk assessment, including the ability to escalate matters where appropriate.
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to recruit, retain, motivate and develop associates.
Capacity to work effectively and collaboratively in the highly regulated Securities industry, with no tolerance for errors.
Ownership of the Discovery Center's work product.
Familiarity with one or more eDiscovery document review platforms such as Relativity, Summation, Concordance, Ringtail, etc.
Strong technical skills in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and third party legal support applications such as Legal Files, other case management software, and Westlaw.
Strong project management skills.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, resourceful, and adaptable to changing priorities.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to accurately assess risk and prioritize work.
Ability and motivation to learn new areas quickly.

ACEDS, ARMA, or IAPP certifications preferred, but not required.
