General Commercial/Contracts, Real Estate, Transactions
Corporate Counsel will assist with transactional matters and corporate advice handled by Milliken’s legal department. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong business acumen and the willingness and aptitude to balance the competing demands and priorities of the Company. The Corporate Counsel will work closely with other members of the Legal Department, internal business clients and outside counsel. This position is located at the Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg, SC.
Plan, draft, negotiate and review a wide variety of agreements including sales agreements, supply agreements, confidentiality agreements, leases and other general agreements
Engage with business and plant leaders, working closely on the drafting, negotiation and execution of contracts
Manage regulatory matters, including coordination with outside counsel
Identify and analyze business objectives at a high level and develop solutions which satisfy and balance the interests of global businesses
Assist legal team with compliance of current legal department contract policies and procedures
Maintain records related to company real property and assist with documentation and negotiation of real property transactions
Identify opportunities in work methods and information flow; make recommendations for improvements to departmental processes and procedures
JD and current state bar membership required
5+ years’ experience with transactional legal work, including complex commercial transactions
Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, with an eye for detail
Ability to prioritize a busy and diverse workload, proactively identify and analyze potential issues and seek outside input when appropriate
Understanding of legal implications of various corporate governance and contractual matters and strong ability to spot legal issues
Ability to drive legal strategies for the company and independently initiate new assignments
Familiarity with environmental or other regulatory law strongly preferred
Excellent skills with Microsoft Office software
