Our client, a high profile late stage private technology company has exclusively engaged Solutus Legal to assist the executives in their search for a Product and Privacy Counsel. The Company is well funded by a Who’s Who in the investor community. In-house experience is preferred, but our client will consider strong attorneys with directly relevant experience from a law firm.
The ideal candidate will possess 6 - 10 years of legal experience with demonstrated expertise in privacy and data security, regulatory, licensing, marketing and/or consumer protection. Open source, GDPR and/or payments experience, as well as some in-house practice, are a strong plus, but not a requirement. As part of the legal department’s product team, this individual will serve as the primary attorney leading the company’s privacy, consumer protection, and compliance efforts globally. S/he will be a business enabler for product managers, which will allow them to move quickly while remaining within legal requirements. This attorney will also partner closely with the Company’s security and trust and safety team, creating policies and procedures protecting the company’s confidential information and its user’s personal data. This role offers immediate impact as the Company brings its products to market.
This Product and Privacy Counsel will:
Forge strong cross-functional relationships with teams throughout the Organization such as Product, Engineering, Security, Finance, Tax and Strategy.
Create, draft and implement product, security and privacy compliance policies.
Advise on compliance with local and international laws and regulations dealing with consumer protection, payments, e-commerce, tax, marketing, privacy and security.
Periodically assess platform, payment and security operations for regulatory compliance.
Analyze proposed applicable emerging market regulations to update internal stakeholders and understand future compliance risk.
Partner with Company Strategy and Finance leadership in creating an approach to effectively monitor, assess and manage risk across the organization.
Advise Company Trust and Safety team on issues related to DMCA takedowns, OFAC, government data requests, garnishments, and overall liability risk for a user generated content platform.
Lead or assist with various compliance efforts e.g. PCI, SOX, GDPR, PSD2.
Advise and educate Company leadership and conduct trainings on certain regulations (e.g., GDPR impact to various teams).
Assist the marketing team with trademark searches, registrations and brand protection.
