Major, Lindsey & Africa has been engaged on an exclusive basis by Illinois Tool Works to identify a Group Technology Counsel to work at ITW’s headquarters in Glenview, Illinois. ITW (NYSE: ITW) is a Fortune 200 global multi-industrial manufacturing leader with revenues totaling $13.6 billion in 2016 and a current market cap of $52 billion.
Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, Intellectual Property, the Group Technology Counsel will have responsibility for providing a full range of legal advice and counsel on a variety of intellectual property matters, primarily in the patent arena. This position will be expected to partner closely with subject matter experts in the Legal Department, as well as with ITW’s Automotive OEM business segment to support a cohesive IP strategy for the company. The successful candidate will have at least eight (8) years of patent law experience as well as general intellectual property law experience, including handling trademark, trade secret and copyright matters. This role will maintain a focus on US and foreign patent preparation, US and foreign prosecution, and familiarity with client counseling, right-to-practice evaluation, international patent matters, contract preparation and negotiation, due diligence and patent litigation activities. A combination of law firm and in-house experience is highly preferred. A degree in Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant scientific or engineering degree, is required. Admission to the USPTO is also required.
