Title: Associate General Counsel Office Location:Mankato, MN; Apple Valley, MN; or Normal, IL
Position Overview: The successful candidate will provide legal counsel, advice, analysis, and support on a wide range of matters in a team environment for the organization. The individual will participate in the negotiation, drafting, and interpretation of a broad range of contractual arrangements between the organization and third parties, as well as coordinating efforts of outside counsel as needed.
Negotiates, drafts, and interprets contracts concerning loans, leases, insurance, and other related matters in compliance with legal, regulatory, and organizational policies.
Conducts legal research.
Recommends solutions and courses of action.
Coordinates with other team members or outside counsel as needed.
Assists in handling legal questions and inquiries from all levels within the organization.
Successful candidate has:
Juris Doctor from an American Bar Association accredited law school.
License to practice law in Minnesota, Wisconsin, or Illinois (or willingness to obtain the same).
At least 2 – 5 years of experience in a law firm or corporate law department (or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job).
Working knowledge of agricultural and commercial lending, real estate, bankruptcy, contract, equipment leasing, and/or corporate law.
Agricultural background preferred.
Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work independently in a timely manner.
Skill in applying legal principles to individual cases and problems.
Skill in writing legal contracts and other legal documents.
Skill in conducting legal research.
Oral and written communication skills sufficient to discuss a variety of job-related topics, and to effectively communicate complex topics to a variety of audiences.
