Corporate Counsel, Litigation and Investigations (Foster City, CA) Gilead Sciences, Inc
As an integral member of the Legal Department, the Corporate Counsel will have broad responsibility for managing the Company's litigation and internal investigations.
Litigations: Will be the internal lead for assigned corporate, commercial, securities, anti-trust, products liability, and other forms of litigation and pre-dispute resolution. Responsible for developing and assessing case strategies, conducting and managing interviews of fact and expert witnesses, handling discovery requests, reviewing court filings, and managing external counsel.
Internal Investigations: Will lead assigned investigations of potential misconduct by Company employees or affiliates and manage external counsel, as needed. Responsible for developing investigation plans, interviewing witnesses, assessing and documenting findings, and recommending corrective actions to business partners
Essential Duties and Job Functions • This position requires working within a team extensively and accordingly, the ability to work collaboratively and efficiently with others is critical. Candidates must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with a variety of different personalities. • The successful candidate will be given increasing responsibility. Accordingly, the Corporate Counsel must competently carry-out and follow through on directives, learn quickly, apply legal analysis in a business context, and work independently to identify issues and goals. • The position will require substantive expertise in litigation and conducting internal investigations combined with excellent project management skills and sound judgment in managing cases and interacting with internal business clients. • The ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment is critical. The position requires appropriate triaging of a heavy workflow, setting appropriate priorities with clients and delivering results within the reasonable agreed timelines. • The candidate must demonstrate ability to think creatively and devise solutions to challenging problems and must exercise mature and reliable judgment.
Education & Experience • A Juris Doctorate from a nationally recognized law school. • At least 10+ years prior industry or law firm experience demonstrating growth and success. • Demonstrated client service orientation; able to recognize and respond quickly and pragmatically to urgent situations and demanding clients. • Excellent written and verbal communications skills. • Strong client service orientation. • Collaborate well with other members of legal departments as well as internal client departments. • Set appropriate priorities with clients and deliver results within the established timelines. • Experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries preferred.
