It can be difficult to choose between working for a disruptive Internet startup and an established Fortune 100 company with more than a century of history.
So, why choose?
Besides operating more than 1,500 stores throughout the U.S. and selling iconic brands like Craftsman, Kenmore, and Die Hard, Sears also operates one of the largest internet marketplace sites in the U.S. and the industry leading social shopping platform and membership rewards program, Shop Your Way.
Sears needs a smart, dynamic attorney to work closely with human resources and business leadership and manage exciting and challenging employment law issues for a wide range of businesses that arise from Sears’ ongoing transformation into a truly integrated retailer.
In particular, our Assistant General Counsel – Labor and Employment Law will have a wide range of duties and a tremendous opportunity to impact, including:
Providing verbal and written labor and employment-related legal advice on a broad range of employment and labor issues, e.g., employment termination and discipline, reorganizations/reductions in force, leaves of absence, reasonable accommodations, wage and hour considerations, co-employment, compensation plans and workplace investigations and outcomes;
Managing and determining strategy for a large litigation docket;
Interpreting collective bargaining agreements;
Drafting policies, employee communications and settlement agreements;
Participating in due diligence reviews regarding the Company’s acquisitions and divestitures;
Preparing and presenting training to human resources and business clients.
Ideally, our Assistant General Counsel – Labor and Employment Law will have five to ten-years’ experience in a top tier law firm or in-house legal department; will have worked on the full range of employment law matters, including ADA, FLSA, ADEA/OWBPA, WARN, FMLA (and paid sick leave) and tradition labor law matters; and will be capable of working independently to deliver timely, practical advice in a fast paced work environment.
