Mathematica’s office of the General Counsel is seeking a part-time experienced corporate transactional attorney motivated by excellence in client service, team work and innovation in legal services delivery. The successful candidate will have a practical, problem-solving approach, superior business acumen, proven ability to assess risk in context and provide risk-based solutions, a creative and positive attitude, and sincerely enjoy collaborating with and encouraging others and superior analytical and communications skills. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a team of legal and non-legal professionals to continuously improve legal services delivery and be comfortable using tools such as SharePoint, Excel, etc.
The part-time Senior Counsel position handles diverse legal matters arising from the services offered by Mathematica and at the corporate level including:
Drafting, reviewing, negotiating various agreements in support of Mathematica's lines of business including partnering agreements, data use agreements, commercial contracts, services agreements and licensing agreements.
Quickly review, assess and advise on requests for legal department support in a variety of areas, including contracts, intellectual property law, various data privacy laws, employment law, corporate law, and laws and regulations governing the federal government contractors.
J.D. degree with a strong academic background with admission to at least one state bar.
Minimum of 7 years of a combination of experience at a prestigious law firm in corporate/transactional practice areas and in-house corporate experience.
Substantive knowledge of HIPAA and other privacy laws is a plus. Substantive knowledge of intellectual property law is a plus. Experience advising clients on international matters is a plus. Substantive knowledge and experience working for or advising a government contractor is a plus.
