Novartis is recruiting for a Director, US NBS Legal and Compliance
This role will provide effective cross-divisional legal and compliance counsel to US Novartis’ Business Services organization, which delivers services related to information technology, human resources, procurement, real estate, facilities management, finance and product lifecycle services. In addition, it will serve as advisor to NBS US and global senior management and key decision makers by collaborating on the latest development in key areas of expertise that have an impact on the current and long term profitability of the company.
Provide effective, efficient legal and compliance support relating to NBS business functions and activities.
Structure, manage, negotiate and execute complex 3rd party transactions (contracts).
Create and deliver training to clients within NBS and cross-divisionally.
Identify and develop policies and “best practices” in support of key projects and initiatives.
Drive innovation and actively contribute to new strategies supporting business goals. Make appropriate judgment calls during times of ambiguity and lead team through new legal territory.
Pursue calculated risk-taking in an unpredictable environment with appropriate contingency planning and continually challenge status quo.
Actively contribute to Legal Function through participation in initiatives to build departmental knowledge and capabilities by sharing best practices.
Influence and partner with client groups to support cross-divisional business functions and guide on strategic business decisions.
Act as primary advisor for the NBS HR Services domain and advise clients on broad range of cross-divisional employment related legal matters and litigation.
Assist with comprehensive, quality and timely responses to investigations into potential employee misconduct.
Partner with and provide direction to outside counsel, as needed.
Juris Doctor or equivalent degree and prior Bachelors or equivalent 4-Year university degree required;
Six plus years of experience in legal and/or compliance counseling role in industry;
Substantive knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws;
Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills;
Experience handling and advising on corporate compliance programs;
Experience with litigation techniques, including electronic discovery;
Knowledge and experience with e-discovery obligations relating to preservation and production of documents;
Strong business acumen with demonstrated understanding of the pharmaceutical business and related legal issues.
