Our client, a leader in the communication industry, is looking to hire a Staff Counsel in their Basking Ridge, NJ office. The Staff Counsel will advise and counsel the sales teams engaged with strategic integrator customers and do what attorneys do: review, draft, and negotiate contracts; ensure business integrity in every transaction; and provide problem solving guidance to business clients as they pursue and sustain growth. We are looking for a stellar candidate with initiative and drive; someone who works well independently, seeks guidance as appropriate, and can handle a high volume of varied and complex legal work. The successful candidate must be able to appreciate and understand the effect of law and regulation on the business and provide strategic legal advice to enable revenue generation, and exercise creativity and judgment while balancing commercial and compliance risks.
The attorney is expected to fulfill a variety of functions, including:
Counsel enterprise sales clients concerning legal and business matters.
Review, draft, and negotiate complex contracts, manage professionally a portfolio of customer accounts, and become intimately familiar with the contractual arrangements for those accounts.
Protect the business interests by ensuring compliance with laws, policies, and practices.
Provide outstanding legal support to the business.
Collaborate with colleagues throughout the Legal team.
Be vigilant for any and all process improvements, business efficiencies, and enhanced training initiatives, and champion them to fruition.
Maintain excellent working relationships with Sales and Finance clients, legal colleagues, all internal stakeholders, and customers.
Be a full member of the business team that you are supporting, and solve their legal problems, if any.
J.D. with excellent academic performance from an accredited law school.
Active Member in good standing with a state bar and, if necessary, eligible for limited In-House Counsel Licensure.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant and recent legal experience in a similar work environment (i.e., law firm, government, or fast paced in-house corporate legal department).
Focus on drafting and negotiating commercial contracts; developing responses to proposals; and supporting distribution, sales, or procurement clients.
Knowledge of telecommunications and technology industry is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work with multiple internal and external groups simultaneously to quickly achieve common goals.
Well-honed project management and organizational skills needed to closely manage multiple transactions and complex projects and process a high volume of work in a timely and accurate manner with a high attention to detail.
Ability to interact comfortably with personnel in various roles and levels across the organization, and enforce legal requirements without alienating clients.
Proven ability to spot problems and develop and lead implementation of creative solutions.
Self-starter who takes initiative to develop, lead, and implement special projects.
Exceptionally strong written and oral communication skills.
Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of software tools for information and correspondence management (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, MS Office, Power Point, inter alia), and the ability to learn and work in contracting and workflow reporting systems.
