A leading international telecommunications company is seeking a team lead to provide day-to-day and complex commercial transaction support for sales and business teams located within the Americas, Europe, Middle East and Africa, and other locations as required. This position reports directly to the Head of the Legal Commercial Team and will also lead the day-to-day activities of the Americas / Europe Legal Commercial Team. Responsibilities include:
assisting the Commercial Head in managing the team of Americas/Europe commercial attorneys handling global transactions of day-to-day and complex commercial matters relating to the sale of voice, data and mobility services as well as certain network/last mile procurement matters;
reviewing, drafting and negotiating “standard” commercial agreements for the provision of standard services with minimal supervision and advise business/sales teams of relevant issues;
providing training for counsel, business/sales teams on legal or related issues;
supporting the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel and/or the Head of Commercial in complex transactions with minimal supervision;
becoming a “subject matter expert” with respect to different types of more complex transactions (e.g., joint provisioning arrangements, voice outsourcing, emerging market cross-border transactions, etc.);
instructing and managing external legal counsel(s) where appropriate;
developing knowledge of and applying requisite skills to interface with and refer matters to other Legal Department teams as required (including compliance, regulatory, procurement and litigation) and ensuring timely closure of transactions in accordance with Company strategy and policies;
proactively addressing risk management;
supporting new product and/or miscellaneous know-how and best practice documentation projects;
performing legal research and analysis on selected topics and preparing memoranda, opinions and position papers upon request; and
performing any other activities as required.
A JD, LLB or LLM (or foreign equivalent) with admission to the bar in at least one relevant jurisdiction and/or at least one common law jurisdiction with good standing and a minimum of 10 to 14 years of post-qualification experience, preferably with a mixture of private practice and in-house experience will be considered. Experience in international telecommunications within regions is strongly preferred, particularly experience with mobile virtual network enablement (MVNE), Internet of things (IoT), cloud and edge services, and unified communications solutions. Other transactional experience will also be considered - particularly related to software licensing, IT/IP, and/or outsourcing. The following skills are essential: excellent communication, technical and negotiation skills, with the ability to work autonomously and manage multiple transactions and persons, a strong technical drafter with a good understanding of contract law, the judgment to escalate items where appropriate to other legal teams (e.g., compliance/regulatory) and/or the Head Commercial, impeccable time management skills (manage multiple matters at the same time), and a motivated and proactive individual who provides solutions and can close matters promptly. A track record in people management and team building skills is a must.
