This role will help manage the Legal Department’s worldwide trademarks program for VF's brands, with a particular emphasis on drafting and negotiating trademark license agreements.
Manage preparation and negotiation of trademark license, co-branding, distribution, and other agreements. Communicate with worldwide licensing managers to understand business plans and needs. Oversee activities of paralegal and assistant in support of trademark license agreements.
Work with General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel in managing brand enforcement and anti-counterfeiting efforts, and searching, clearance, filing and renewing of the Company's trademarks and copyrights worldwide.
Perform legal research on various issues of U.S. and international trademark and copyright law.
Develop and deliver training sessions as needed for persons within the Company regarding Trademarks and their proper use.
Establish and monitor budget for invoices for legal services.
Years of Related Professional Experience: 3-5+
3 - 5+ Years of Professional Experience, in either a law firm or in-house legal department; primarily in intellectual property, with an emphasis on contract negotiation, such as licenses and co-branding agreements, as well as developing and managing a global trademark portfolio.
U.S. JD or equivalent
Bar admission required
USPTO and TTAB experience -- at least 2+ years
Excellent communication, writing and organizational skills
Proactive individual who can work efficiently and without substantial oversight
Excellent technical/computer skills
Strong ability to prioritize work and multitask
Ability to read, analyze and interpret legal documents
Ability to draft clear and precise legal documents
Self-starter with a strong emphasis on organization and staying focused on top priorities
Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate legal issues to all clients, outside counsel and third party agencies such as investigators in a proactive, positive and helpful manner
Ability to assess legal risk and escalate appropriately
Detail oriented in all areas of the job with a firm understanding of managing a budget and working with Finance
Outgoing, articulate, professional and approachable—ability to effectively deal with internal and external business partners – in business and government agencies
Computer proficiency including specific job-required applications
Special Physical And/or Mental Requirements
Minimal travel required (approximately 5-10%)
Willing and able to work additional after hours when needed
Bend, lift, open and move product and related office items varying in weight from 1 to 25 lbs, depending on need
