Our Staff Counsel performs legal research and provides legal advice, information, and risk management strategies to various business units on a wide range of legal and regulatory issues affecting the corporation and its subsidiaries, including, but not limited to: employment, labor relations, health care reform, employee benefits, contracts, insurance, vendor disputes, corporate/business law, and government contracting.
Legal Counsel/Compliance Support (100%)
Advise senior management and other internal stakeholders of the corporation and its subsidiaries on various legal and compliance issues by utilizing legal expertise to assess risk and to provide effective and appropriate recommendations regarding such risks.
Perform legal research and analysis on various legal issues affecting the corporation and its subsidiaries.
Draft and/or review all corporate contracts and provide relevant comments/feedback.
Review, investigate, and respond to demand letters and other pre-litigation matters from prospective claimants and/or counsel.
Collaborate with and assist operational departments with implementation of new state and federal laws.
Advise internal business partners with the development and/or review of corporate policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance.
Review certificates and policies for compliance with state and federal law. Assist with development of contract language for certificates and policies.
Review employee benefit plans for compliance with applicable law; assist with development of plan document and participant notice language.
Serve as legal counsel to Grievance/Appeal Committee.
Complete special projects and/or provide guidance on other corporate projects and initiatives as needed, including new business ventures.
Provide guidance regarding garnishments and levies filed against the corporation and its subsidiaries along with other document and subpoena requests, as needed.
Participate on the Legal Impact Team by identifying potential legal risks and issues by tracking relevant judicial, legislative, and regulatory developments and analyzing implications to suggest strategies for managing legal impact to the corporation and its subsidiaries.
3 or more years as an attorney practicing in a law firm and/or corporate law department
Law degree from an accredited law school
Member of State Bar of Wisconsin in good standing, required upon hire
