Department Overview

The Symantec Software as a Service (SaaS) division provides a range of managed services to protect, control, encrypt and archive electronic communications. Without the need for hardware or software our services can be deployed anywhere in the world in a matter of minutes.

Responsibilities

• Represent the Symantec Software as a Service (SaaS) division and various other revenue licensing and services activities

• Draft, review, and negotiate terms of service agreements, licenses and other forms of agreement to address customer concerns and minimize corporate exposure while complying with Symantec policies

• Maintain and modify, as required, standard Symantec agreements for the sale of services developed and marketed by Symantec

• Participate in frequent interaction with Symantec contracts staff, field sales representatives, resellers, partners, and technical/non-technical services business unit personnel in the initial analysis and definition of requirements, drafting and reviewing of various agreements and other legal documents

• Interface with the corporate legal, finance/revenue accounting, order operations, and other supporting cross functional organizations to answer questions and resolve issues related to services legal issues in support of Symantec transactional business

• Review and advise the services business operations teams in responding to requests for proposals, nondisclosure agreements, and related documents

• Prepare non-routine correspondence, contract file documentation, and internal memoranda

• Provide or substantially participate in training of sales personnel and others on Symantec legal policies and procedures

• Ensure accuracy of contract/agreements, modifications/amendments, renewals/extensions and contract database for assigned areas of responsibility

• Prepare periodic status of assigned contracts and report regularly to legal management regarding significant issues in contracts, legal issues worked on or pending

• Respond to internal and external client contacts, requests and service level expectations in a timely manner

Requirements
Qualifications

• Attorney licensed in Virginia or eligible to practice under Virginia’s Corporate Counsel Rule

• Minimum of two (2) years of related experience

• Prior experience in the IT software or services industry and contracts/legal environment is preferred

• Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and internet skills

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Decisive and detail oriented

• Able to represent company professionally and effectively with internal and external clients/suppliers

• Able to understand and balance legal and business issues

• Demonstrated ability to effectively negotiate standard contractual provisions with suppliers and clients

• Able to independently draft initial or alternative contract language for standard provisions and situations

• Demonstrated ability to anticipate and creatively resolve issues

• Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize workload and work concurrently on various matters

• Proactive in identifying and resolving issues in assigned task areas

• Work well in a team environment

• Demonstrate a working knowledge of revenue recognition principles
