Start-up Litigation Financing Fund Seeks Seasoned Litigator with 15+ years’ Experience for Strategic & Entrepreneurial Business Role
A start up fund that will engage in funding of commercial litigation and arbitration claims in the US and globally is looking for its Chief Investment Officer.
Position Risk Profile: The right candidate should be willing to take risk in exchange for equity upside and be able to think and act like a principal in a business as opposed to an adviser who “gets paid by the hour.” The right candidate will work hand-in-hand with other founders of the fund in a capacity similar to the general counsel or senior partner in an investment fund in terms of level of responsibility.
Responsibilities:
As the CIO, your responsibilities will include:
• Generate case flow by leveraging relationships with senior partners in top firms and corporate counsel • Provide preliminary assessment of merits of the case, parties involved (including counsel on both sides, defendants, judges, experts etc.) and assess potential settlement / award quantum and timing • Develop and document “underwriting standards and practices” framework to be used in case evaluation • Negotiate transaction terms with fundee entities • Monitor case progress and developments and intervene as necessary • Participate in capital raising activities as necessary
Location: Greater New York area
Compensation: To be negotiated. As noted above, since this is akin to a co-founder’s role in a start-up venture, you should be willing to take risk in exchange for equity upside.
